Heritage and hope banquet

FEB. 16—Wayman Chapel AME Church, 1120 6th Ave., New Brighton, will host the “Third Annual Heritage and Hope Banquet” at 5:30 p.m. at The Berkshire, 717 12th St., Beaver Falls. This is an event to celebrate our heritage and our hope: past, present and future. There will be joy, music and fellowship. This is a formal, black tie affair. Worship service

FEB. 15—The First Baptist Church of West Mifflin, 3427 Cypress St., West Mifflin, will host a worship service at 7 p.m. Rev. Arlene Marie Walker will be the preacher. For more information, call 412-461-2522.

Verve café

FEB. 15—The Union Project will host the Verve Café from 7-9 p.m. at 801 N. Negley Ave., East Liberty. Come and enjoy Christian entertainment in a Christian atmosphere. There will be spoken word with Rev. EZ and music from Sonji and customized greeting cards by Rose Marie Weems. There is also an open-mic session. This event is free and open to all. I was a slave

FEB. 16—The AUUC Racial Justice Ministry will host “I Was A Slave” at 2 p.m. at the Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church, 416 W. North Ave., Northside. Local singers and storytellers, Loretta Reed and Lorrainne Phillips, will tell the story of a young African girl taken from her homeland and sold into slavery. Tai Chi classes

FEB. 19—East Liberty Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Highland Ave., East Liberty, will host the beginning of their “Tai Chi Classes” from 10-11 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. Judy Crow will be the instructor. Taize prayer

Men’s Bible Study
