I’m writing this letter to the editor of the New Pittsburgh Courier in response to a column “To Tell The Truth” written by Louis “Hop” Kendrick entitled “Who Do You Say You Are?” Yes, I understand that brother Louis “Hop” Kendrick is voicing his personal perspective and professional opinion. Even so, this is a conflict of interest and creates controversy, because Louis “Hop” Kendrick lead column is titled “To Tell The Truth,” whereas it should say…In Search Of The Truth, because there is no absolute truth in voicing one’s opinion; regarding a person or an entire race of people “Black People.”
Truth be told, “Who Do You Say You Are?” and the actuality of who you are, beholds two different persons. People will be who you want them to be, to get what they want! People will be who you want them to be, to keep what they have! In America the racial pro quo is White only. In America the African-American struggles to be what he or she wants to be, but prejudice will see you as the n-word. In America the African-American can have enough money to do what he or she wants to do, but prejudice will see you as the n-word. This conclusion is accurate, because of facts, regarding equality in America for African-Americans; as compared to other non-white Americans. The President of these United States of America has been called the n-word.
“To Tell The Truth,” truth means that which is real, an absolute reality! Belief is a trust, not the truth and a consistent belief is not an absolute really. Now that being said, being insecure and lacking self-esteem has nothing to do with poverty, success, race, being an alcoholic, on welfare, being a drug addict or a single parent. Giving up on life, or choosing not to get involved in community or national Black movements or protests is an individual choice, with the liberty to do so! In Search Of The Truth, a person who profess to be a Christian is not a perfect person or religious savior. A Christian is neither without faults nor sin.
“Our communities are under siege as never before, our children need us now more than ever before.” Now that being said by Louis “Hop” Kendrick, deserves this answer; the reason for this under siege in our Black communities is because of us, we have allowed it to come to this, because of our own fears, selfishness and stingy pockets from 30 years ago. Even So, know this also, 30 years from now, it will be worse again; than ever before! Talk about it, write about it and even challenge it, and it will be the same old thing, Black history repeating it’s self under the camouflage cloak of equality.
The time is now, for us; was 30 years ago. We are where we are today because of us. “To Tell The Truth,” you can’t handle the truth! I’m 56 years old, born January 1956, at the age of 16 years old, while going home after a Jackson 5 concert at the Civic Arena in June 1972, I was brutally beaten by White police officers on 5th Ave. located Downtown Pittsburgh, Pa. I was taken to Number 1 Police Station, where I was beaten again and again. But when they found out that I was only 16 years old, I was quickly moved out to Oakland’s Juvenile Detention Center, nothing was done to the police officers who brutally beat me, no charges was filed against them, for locking me up in an adult jail cell. My mother went to the NAACP and they did nothing, No Black organization helped me, no community outcry nor protest. No local news coverage, and my case never made it to court.
Now 40 years later, our children are being beaten by White police officers, killed by White police officers, wrongfully detained by harassing White police officers. And during this so-called due process of our justice system against just us, our children and their fathers’ civil rights are being violated.
“To Tell The Truth,” who I say I am, who you say I am, and who I am are three different persons, according to whomever’s opinion or personal observation. Mankind asked the same question to Jesus Christ, Who Do You Say You Are? Jesus answered them, and they killed him, “crucify.” Therefore, does it really matter who I am? Behold the hypocrisy of equality, the hypocrisy of Democracy, the hypocrisy of the truth, and the hypocrisy of justice for all!
To end this letter to the editor, let it be said; now let it be written, “To Tell The Whole Truth and nothing but the Truth so help us God! Truth means that which is real, an absolute reality! Conclusions that are accurate to a degree are called half truths. “To Tell The Truth,” the absolute truth, I am a Christian struggling to live righteous, I am American, an African-American, born and raised here in these United States of America. God Bless America and its entire people, regardless of race, color or creed.
