Vincentian sneaks past North Catholic to win Class A title
Category: Sports Published on Friday, 09 March 2012 09:40 Written by Courier Newsroom
The Defending champion North Catholic Trojanettes (20-6) is a name that speaks for itself—She is the Queen of WPIAL basketball and whenever she goes down it is a larger than life victory.
The Trojanettes are the winners of 16 WPIAL championships and were dominating Vincentian (25-1) for most of the game. North Catholic was up by seven late in the fourth quarter when Vincentian went on an 11-0 run, that was aided by the officials, to win their fifth title, 54-50, in the past 13 years.
Coach Ron Moncrief’s teams have shown more hustle and prides itself on work ethic; desire and great defense.
Vincentian’s only loss this season was against North Catholic and both teams appear to be on a collision course in the PIAA playoffs. This maybe the best rivalry in high school basketball and many fans are looking forward to the rubber match.
