For it’s third year, 1Hood recently hosted 1Hood Day, a two-day festival that celebrates the hip hop culture in all its manifestations. 1Hood Day was built on the idea of uniting family, the community and music. Based in knowledge of self, on this day, the organization honored all the pillars of hip hop, including MCing, DJing, B-boying, and graffiti. Funding for the The Pittsburgh hip hop collective was provided by the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh Program, a partnership of The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments.

Last month, Part 1 of 1Hood Day incorporated younger adults from throughout the city, some not affiliated with the organization. The event was hosted at Repair the World and had a stellar line-up of up and coming Pittsburgh based talent including: Patience Roy’al, James Perry, Lyn Starr, Chris Butler, Dejah Monea, Jermalle Jones, Torra, Bird, Ink, Kiki Lyrics, DJ Austin, Zende and Level Up Studios

The last day of the festival, hosted by AR3, featured by David Banner and included a special guest performance by Jessica Care Moore.  Other performances included well-known 1Hood artists Jasiri X, Idasa Tariq, LUC, Blak Rapp Madusa, Tyhir Frost, Jacquea Mae and Jordan Montgomery.
