AUG. 23—State Representative Ed Gainey, Family Support Services and Destiny International Ministries will host the “Back to School Book Bag Drive” from 12-3 p.m. at Destiny International Ministries, 7061 Lemington Ave., East Liberty. The event will include vendors, information on state programs for kids, food, music, safety information and more. Each child must be present to receive a book bag. AUG. 28—Macedonia FACE will host its 4th Annual Friend of Children Benefit Banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn University of Pittsburgh, 3454 Forbes Ave., Oakland. AUG. 30—The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh will host its Operation HOME workshop from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, 610 Wood St., Downtown. This is an intensive homeownership program that equips potential interested homebuyers with a basic understanding of how to travel the path to mortgage qualification and maintaining homeownership. AUG. 30—The Community Empowerment Association will host a Back-to-School Supply Drive from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Gazebo in Homewood, at North and Frankstown Avenues, in Homewood.
