BROCKPORT, Pa. (AP) – A customer wounded a bartender because he was upset that she wanted to close a northwestern Pennsylvania social club for the night, then fatally turned the gun on himself, state police said.

Troopers from the Ridgway barracks continued Friday to investigate the shootings at the Brockport Army & Navy Club by Eric Carlson, 31, of Brockway.

Carlson was drinking late Wednesday at the club in Horton Township, about 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, when the 20-year-old bartender announced she was closing just before midnight.

Carlson “became upset with her as she was attempting to close the bar,” state police said in a news release. “An argument ensued and the victim attempted to get the actor to leave.”

Carlson shot the barmaid then shot himself as she was lying on a porch near the club’s door, police said.

Police were not releasing the name of the bartender, who was flown to UPMC Altoona hospital where her condition wasn’t being released.

Nobody answered the club’s phone Friday, and state police said they didn’t expect to release more information on their investigation until next week.

Police were also trying to determine whether Carlson had stolen the gun from a vehicle parked at the club.

In a separate release, police said an unidentified 57-year-old man reported that the gun was stolen sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 11:50 p.m. the day of the shooting. The weapon reported stolen – which police did not describe – was recovered at the shooting scene.
