PITTSBURGH (AP) – The mayor of Pittsburgh says he has gotten so many requests to perform marriage ceremonies that he will set aside time one Thursday each month to conduct them.

Mayor Bill Peduto told The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/UfFI6K ) that he has received “hundreds of requests.”

He married 20 same-sex couples in a ceremony last month after a federal judge ruled that the state’s ban on same-sex marriages was unconstitutional.

On Thursday, Peduto presided over nuptials for Drs. Kate Felmet and Ivonne Daly, who met met 14 years ago while training at Children’s Hospital.

Felmet said their relationship “sort of bloomed and blossomed” in Pittsburgh, so it made sense to have the mayor of the city marry them.

The city doesn’t charge a fee for the wedding ceremonies in the mayor’s office.
