Lou ‘Fatha’ Thimes Sr. passed away yesterday following a recent illness. He was 85 years old.

Both a legend and a pioneer in the urban radio market, Thimes is best known for his days on KATZ 1600 – where he spun blues and gospel classics.

His career in radio spanned more than 50 years and he helped pave the way for radio personalities of color in St. Louis – including his son Lou “The Real J.R.” Thimes Jr.

In addition to his son, Thimes is survived by his daughter Denise Thimes – an internationally renowned jazz singer.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but will be provided once they are made available.
