This will be my shortest column, but also one of the most important.
I was fortunate enough to be in attendance recently at the annual NAACP Human Rights Dinner. It was a total success numerically with people from every walk of life. There were life long members, annual members, elected officials, religious leaders, potential members, and the young and the elderly.
Of all of the statements made that evening, NAACP President Constance Parker made the most profound when she said, “We, you and I, must begin to pay our own way.”
Connie was right on target, we are the only ethnic group throughout Allegheny County who depend almost totally upon others to fund our annual dinner.
We unquestionably have the capacity, but have never demonstrated the will, the question is why?
Who are the organizations? The following is a partial list that hopefully will sponsor the next annual NAACP Dinner.
Fraternities, sororities, civic clubs, sports organizations, churches, businesspersons, sports figures and those who can contribute $5. There are those who will say, “it won’t work.” I say let’s try it.
Connie we heard your challenge.
Kingsley Association is still seeking you financial support.
