Days after the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old Verona man took place in the early hours of Mother’s Day, in front of a Homewood art center created for children, authorities are still searching for the suspect or suspects and a motive.
Pittsburgh Police were dispatched on May 11 to the 7800 block of Hamilton Avenue at approximately 5:10 a.m. for a male shot and not breathing, said Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokesperson Sonya Toler. The victim, who was later identified as Jeffrey Jackson, was shot multiple times, including four times in the chest.
The shooting took place outside of the Art House, a neighborhood art center created by artist Vanessa German as a safe place for children to creatively express themselves. Ironically displayed outside of the colorfully painted center that once was a home, is a yard sign that reads, “Stop Shooting—We Love You.”
