PowerBreakfast Meeting

FEB. 21–The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host its PowerBreakfast Meeting at 7:30 a.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. The guest speaker will be Paul Harper, PhD, clinical professor of Business Administration Organizations & Entrepreneurship, University of Pittsburgh Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. He will discuss the exciting initiatives he’s establishing and the impact it’s planned to have on small business and new entrepreneurs. Reservations are required by Feb. 19. Theft in the Digital Era

FEB. 27—The Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence will host “Employers Beware: Employee Theft in the Digital Era” from 7:30-9:39 a.m. at the Rivers Club, 301 Grant St., Downtown. Forensic experts will teach attendees how to protect their business from a data security breach from their employees, along with strategies and best practices to ensure security and confidentiality of their company’s data. Topics will include Document Retention and Destruction Policies, Strategic Assessment Consideration, Employment Agreements that protect one’s confidential information and more. The topic is “How to E-File Your Federal Return.” Diana Smith, IRS Tax Consultant, will explain the many benefits of using the IRS e-file to file one’s federal return for free. The event is free. FEB. 28—The Small Business Development Center of Duquesne University will host its “The Battle of the Ages: Digital vs. Traditional Marketing” workshop at 9 a.m. at Duquesne University, Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. Ken Sevick, of ActionCOACH Business Coaching, and Geoff Skadra, of Catchpoint Creativity, will present this comprehensive workshop that will teach the differences between traditional and digital marketing, along with the practical strategies to improve one’s reach and get more sales.
