With the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh’s slogan of “Empowering Communities. Changing Lives.”—It is a goal that can only be achieved through dedication, hard work and great leadership. Despite the grueling weather, hundreds gathered on Dec. 6, as the Urban League honored four individuals and a corporation for their roles in helping the organization and surrounding communities achieve that goal at the 18th Annual Ronald H. Brown Leadership Awards Gala at the West Club Lounge at Heinz Field.
Esther Bush, president and CEO of the Urban League, said, “We felt really good about the hundreds of people who dealt with the weather and supported us. I really want to thank them.” She said the feedback that she’s received has been positive.
The Urban League’s annual event honors outstanding individuals, organizations or corporations in the Greater Pittsburgh community who exemplify leadership in improving the quality of life for African-Americans, while raising funds to continue the vital services they provide within the community.
This year’s honorees were: journalist Chris Moore for his civic leadership, Jerlean E. Daniel, PhD, and Jack L. Daniel, PhD, for their community leadership, and Enterprise Holdings and Tim Nettles, for their corporate leadership.
