Brown-Bag Lunch Concerts
    The University of Pittsburgh’s Pitt Jazz Ensemble presents its Brown-Bag Lunch Concerts at 12 p.m. at Nordy’s Place, William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland. An Evening of Art
    The Reconciliation Commission of the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh presents “An Evening of Art, Music and Bridge Building” at 7 p.m. at the Church of Ascension, 4729 Ellsworth Ave., Oakland. The evening will feature imagery in African-American poetry and visual art by artist, musician and author Elizabeth Asche “Betty” Douglas, who draws from the life experience of many generations of talented, tri-state area African-American artists. Africa Calling Series
    Kente Arts Alliance presents the Africa Calling Series at 8 p.m. at the New Hazlett Theater, 8 Allegheny Square East, North Side. The evening will feature NEA Jazz Master Randy Weston’s African Rhythms Quintet. Weston is an internationally renowned pianist, composer, bandleader and more, who encompasses the rhythmic heritage of Africa into his works. Straightening Combs
    Popa Banks and the Hill House Association present “Straightening Combs” at 3 p.m. at the Kaufmann Center, Elsie H. Hillman Auditorium, 1825 Centre Ave., Hill District. This is a powerful one-woman show, written and performed by Kim El, who was raised in the Hill District. The afternoon performance will be hosted by Deanne Marie.
