CAUSE Speaker Series
    SEPT. 20—Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Africanamerican Urban Studies and the Economy will host its Speaker Series 2013-2014 Opening Reception from 4:30-6 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon University, Schatz Dinning Hall, University Center, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland. Senior Prom
    SEPT. 20—The North Hills Ebony Women Inc. and Allen Place Community Services Inc. will host its Pittsburgh Senior Prom from 5-10 a.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton, 500 Mansfield Ave., Greentree. The theme is “Building Community Partnerships for Health Equity” This will be a night of health education, food, dancing, fun and more. Every Child Gala
    SEPT. 20—Every Child Inc. will host its annual Challenge the Champions Gala at 6:30 p.m. at the Rivers Casino Grand Ballroom, 777 Casino Dr., North Shore. This event will celebrate those who champion for children and who spread awareness about the need for all children to have a permanent, safe home. Vince Sims, of WPXI, will be the emcee. Health Symposium

Flea Market/Membership Drive
    SEPT. 21—The East Tri-Borough Neighborhood Association will host its Annual Flea Market Fundraiser and Membership Drive from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 8020 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. Power of Laughter
    SEPT. 21—The American Heart Association will host the 2013 Power of Laughter Health Workshop and Comedy Luncheon from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown Hotel, 600 Commonwealth Place, Downtown. The theme is “Sending Out an S.O.S: Saving Our Selves with the healing power of laughter.” The featured presenter will be Dr. Jackson T. Wright Jr. and Alex Ortiz will be the featured comedian. Firemen Appreciation Day
    SEPT. 21—The Rapp Funeral Home will host its 4th Annual Firemen Appreciation Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Rapp Funeral Home, 10940 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills. Human Rights Banquet
    SEPT. 21—The Mon Valley NAACP Branch 2274 will host its Annual Human Rights Banquet at 5 p.m. at the Donora Borough Social Hall, 603 Meldon Ave., Donora, Pa. The theme is “Building Leadership; Leadership Is Not A Title, It’s An ACTION!” Donora native and U.S. District Court Judge Reggie Walton will be the guest speaker and Tim Stevens, founder of B-PEP and former NAACP Pittsburgh president, will be the emcee. Jazz duo It Take Two and the August Wilson Dance Ensemble will be the featured entertainment. Signature Event
    SEPT. 26—Small Seeds Development Inc. will host its Signature Event from 5-9 p.m. at the LeMont Restaurant, 1114 Grandview Ave., Mt. Washington. There will be dinner, a silent auction and music by the Kevin Howard Duo. The honorees are the late Gwendolyn “Gwen” Elliot, Mark Lewis, Judith Mason, Joseph Mertz, PhD, and Dr. Jeanette South-Paul. KDKA’s Brenda Waters and Harold Hayes will be the mistress and master of ceremonies. Reservations are requested by Sept. 19.
