We fail to demonstrate our dissatisfaction

In a previous column I explained the major reasons that the jails are bursting at the seams with young Black men. Blacks must be reminded that the period of Dr. Martin Luther King was over with his assassination. Blacks stopped singing “We shall overcome” and started to sing “Ain’t going to take it anymore”. We stopped turning the other cheek and chanted no “justice no peace”.

How many of you remember Black Tuesday and please explain why it took the death of a young Black in the state of Florida to get the reaction that took place a few Saturdays ago. The same kind of injustice occurs everyday in Allegheny County and no one gets upset and angry enough to descend with regularity on Allegheny County Council or Pittsburgh City Council.

To those of you who not familiar with history President Lyndon Johnson did not create the Great Society out of the goodness of America. It came in to existence because of the actions of people in California, Detroit, Cleveland and many cities across this nation.

We must recognize if those who are in positions of leadership in Allegheny County and the city of Pittsburgh are ever going to recognize that we are first-class citizens it will only happen if we take the necessary action to make it happen. It will not occur any other way.

If you want to grow as a man or woman, family, neighborhood, church, or organization, you must move to action. If you attend church read your Bible and you will realize if you don’t already know it, Christ was a man of action, and politician’s money could not buy his silence.
