Sickle Cell Symposium
    AUG. 7—Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC will host the Sickle Celle Disease Symposium from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center, Children’s Hospital of Pgh of UPMC, 4401 Penn Ave., Bloomfield. Topics for the symposium include Sickle Cell Disease and the Brain, Hydroxyurea, an Update on Pulmonary Hypertension in Sickle Cell Disease, and more. Family Summit
    AUG. 9—Sisters Saving Ourselves Now will host its 2nd Annual Family Summit at the Community College of Allegheny County, South Campus, 1750 Clairton Rd., West Mifflin. National and local speakers will address critical issues facing Allegheny County families through educational workshops and panel discussions. Special guests will be Melanie Campbell, No More Project, the Kuumba African Drummers and more. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Rev. CB Day
    AUG. 10—Ammon Recreational Center will host the 2nd Annual CB Day honoring Hill District Pioneer Clarance “CB” Battle from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at 2217 Bedford Ave., Hill District. Ice Cream Fundae
    AUG. 11—Pressley Ridge will host its 19th Annual Ice Cream Fundae at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, 1 Wild Place, Highland Park. NAACP Meeting
    AUG. 14—The Pittsburgh Unit of the NAACP will host their monthly Executive/General Meeting at 7 p.m. at Freedom Unlimited, 2201 Wylie Ave., Hill District. All members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 412-471-1024.

Community Health Fair
    AUG. 17—North Side Christian Health Center will host a Community Health Fair from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at NSCHC, 816 Middle St., North Side. The theme is “Transforming Health Care in Our Local Community.” There will be free giveaways, health screenings, kids activities, and free snacks and beverages. Gathering In the Park
    AUG. 17—P.R.O.M.I.S.E. will host its Jehru M. Donaldson 5th annual Gathering in the Park for Peace and Lost Loved Ones from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at West Park, North Side. Summer Speaker Program
    AUG. 17—The McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center Summer Speaker Program: The Goode Family’s Heritage at 2 p.m. at 1812 Arboretum Dr., McKeesport. Robert Goode, of Homestead, will give a presentation on his family’s stories, including those of Mary Dee Dudley, the nation’s first Black female disc jockey, and Mal Goode, the first Black correspondent for a national network. Education Walk
    AUG. 24—Jehoshabeath Eli will host the “We Love Our North Side Schools” Education Walk for Kids at 9 a.m. at the Children’s Museum, Buhl Community Park, Allegheny Square, North Side.
