With the last month of summer approaching, staying stylish in the hot summer days ahead is paramount.
Here are the top two summer staples from two stylists soon to be featured in Style Week Pittsburgh, a five-day fashion-focused event beginning Aug. 7.
“Invest in maxi dresses,” said stylist Lakisha Patton, founder of Focused Fashion Consulting. “With the season changing, a lot of items are going on sale. There’s so many different things you can do with maxi dresses. You can wear them with heals and flats and they come in so many different patterns and colors.”
Patton will be one of a select group of stylists, designers, models, and boutique owners, featured in Style Week. In addition to styling models for Style Week’s fashion shows, Patton will be a stylist at the Beauty Boot Camp event at LaLa’s Salon on Sunday Aug. 11.
“I think people are going to be really excited with what they see,” Patton said of Style Week. “It’s a very innovative idea and movement that’s going on in Pittsburgh. Anytime you’re able to bring together so many different facets, including stylists, designer, and boutique owners, to come together and really celebrate each other, is great.”

“In the summer I’d say it’s more about accessorizing your look,” said Jovon Mitchell, co-owner and buyer for 720 Music, Clothing, and Café. “If it’s a hot day, you can wear something simple and accessorize it with a chunky necklace and a clutch or a colored heal.”
Mitchell, who specializes in vintage clothing will be showcasing her expertise in the vintage portion of the Decades Fashion Show. The show benefitting Gwens Girls, a local nonprofit for girls and young women, will chronicle the fashions of the 70s-2000s.
“We’ve been trying so hard to do different things to bring Fashion to Pittsburgh,” Mitchell said. “Pittsburgh isn’t really known as a fashion capital and Style Week is just one of those things that can help with that.”
