DEBBIE NORRELL The New Pittsburgh Courier’s most recent Woman of Excellence Legacy honoree says Stand Up, be counted and get involved. Bev Smith, host of “The Bev Smith Show” is hosting “A Challenge to African American Women.” On Aug. 28-31 at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh, Downtown, Smith is challenging African-American women around the world to join her and her special guests to plot a course of action to take back our communities and our families by focusing on health, education, employment and spirituality.



Police officer: More powerful than President Obama

LOUIS ‘HOP’ KEDRICK The most recent incident between a police officer and Black, law-abiding citizens took place in Homewood. Two Black men, an educator and a photographer allegedly became victims of a police officer. The educator was arrested and charged and the photographer was mentally if not physically abused.
