On May 11, at the beautiful LeMont Restaurant the Central Baptist Church, Deaconess Ministry, hosted their fifth annual Spring Hat Sensation. More than 260 ladies and a few gents donned fabulous hats and enjoyed a wonderful luncheon. Special guests included Evangelist Lisa Thorpe-Vaughn and Psalmist Deborah Moncrief.  More than a dozen ladies participated in the “Hat Stroll” and modeled the unique and stylish hats from A Woman’s Touch Fashions.

Each year during the hat event, the Servant’s Heart Award is presented to someone who goes far beyond the call of duty at Central Baptist Church. In the past this award is typically presented to a female. This year was a first, the Servant’s Heart Award was presented to Deacon Ernest Darby, of Central Baptist Church.  Deacon Darby was surprised and humbly received his award with a smile on his face. The award was presented by Deaconess Edie Tyler.

The talents of the special guests were numerous. Evangelist Thorpe-Vaughn has expanded her ministry gifts outside of her local church by serving other national, as well as international, ministries and congregations. In these roles she works as a consultant for conference coordination and staff training to non-profit organizations. Psalmist Deborah Moncrief has toured extensively in Europe, the United States and Canada. Currently, she has worked alongside her husband, Elder Keith Moncrief, as co-pastor of Missionary Temple Ministries in Pittsburgh, Pa.
