HARMONY CLUB MEMBERS—Pat Pugh Mitchell, Marlene Murphy, Cynthia McEnheimer, and Alzera Harris
On May 4, at the Westwood Golf Club in West Mifflin, PA The Harmony Club of Homestead hosted their annual Dorothy Lance/Vivian Weems Annual Scholarship Luncheon with the theme “A Woman’s Touch.” Event co-chairs Bea Barnett, Kathleen Randolph, Cheryl Edmonds and Jewel Garrison thought this was the perfect theme for the afternoon. The fashions were from a Woman’s Touch (soon to reopen in Swissvale). The club consists of all women and the mayor of Homestead is a woman.
The Harmony Club was organized in November of 1899 by the late Anna S. Posey for the purpose of doing community charitable work. It was originally known as The Ladies Aid Club. Over the years the club has contributed to the Homestead community in many ways, from helping families in need to lending financial support to many churches and numerous organizations.
This year they presented a scholarship to Shalaya Briston, a graduate of Steel Valley High School. Briston will attend Temple University in the fall. Cye Quon Murphy was also awarded a scholarship. Murphy is a graduate of West Mifflin Area High School and in the fall will attend Penn State University, University Park Campus.
The models that walked the catwalk for “A Woman’s Touch” included Lydia Williams, Joyce Randolph, Jewel Garrison, Linda Bursey, Bernadette Holly, Rehny Little, Ayesha Williams, Melissa Turner and Bettina Taylor.
