DEBRA CLARK-RUSSELL reads the book “Lamp of Wisdom” by her great great grandfather Rev. Dr. W. H. Councill.

 

While researching the academic offerings at Alabama A&M for her son, Debra Clark-Russell  discovered a wealth of information about William Hooper Council the founder of Alabama A&M and her great-great-grandfather.
Council was a former slave and the first president of Huntsville Normal School, which today is Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Huntsville, Ala.
Clark-Russell will speak about the fascinating life of her great-great-grandfather Rev. Dr. William Hooper Councill and her great-grandfather Walter Solomon Buchanan, former president of Alabama A&M and former Homewood resident; on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Homewood Library on Hamilton Avenue.
