Workforce & Business Development
    JAN. 31—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania’s Business Institute will host “The Marcellus Shale: Workforce & Business Development” from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Koppers Building, 436 Seventh Ave., Downtown. This workshop is designed for business owners and non-profits. The focus will be on the Act 12 Compliance issues, supply chains, preparation of vendors and supplies and workforce development. Entrepreneurial Thursdays
    JAN. 31—Pittsburgh Gateway Corporation will host Jessica Lee’s Entrepreneurial Thursdays Jazz and Blues Networking from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Little E’s, 949 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. Every Thursday jazz and R&B vocalist Jessica Lee, along with some of Pittsburgh’s finest musical artists, will host an evening of good music and professional networking. The First Step
    FEB. 7—The University of Pittsburgh ‘s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence will host “The First Step: Mechanics of Starting a Small Business” from 7:30-10 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh, Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Drive, Oakland. This seminar explores the size of one’s market and what marketing tools will be needed to attract customers, learn about business structures, access helpful resources, learn more about funding options and more. Breakfast Series
    FEB. 8—The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University will host its Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series from 7:30-9 a.m. at Chatham University, Woodland Road, Shadyside. Nancy Furbee, owner of Furbee and Associates LLC Deb Burk, will discuss the topic “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About HR, But Were Too Afraid to Ask.” Registration is required. Business Networking Mixer
    FEB. 9—Classic Events! will host a Business Networking Mixer at 5:30 p.m. at Hosanna House, 807 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg. The theme is “Celebrating Black History Month: Saluting the African-American Experience in Wilkinsburg.” In celebration of Black History there will be recognition of several individuals who have the honor of being the first African-American to excel in their specific field.
