The members of the Harriet Tubman Guild Inc. feel that they stand on the shoulders of Harriet Tubman. On Dec. 8, at the Doubletree Hotel in Monroeville, hundreds enjoyed The Annual Queen’s Luncheon. Shirley Douglas, host of the PJ Talk on PCTV, served as mistress of ceremony. Flo Wilson and the Old School Band provided a beautiful holiday soundtrack while a delightful lunch was enjoyed.

The Annual Queens Luncheon is when the 2012 Queens are introduced and the crown is passed to the new queen. Queen Carmen Davis passed the crown to Rev. Sharon Quarles of the Hallie Q. Brown Chapter. The other chapter queens included: Lizette Jackson-Hicks, Together Chapter, third place; Lois M. Brown, Emanon Chapter; Barbara E. Thompson, Winona Idell Chapter; Marsha Austin, Congress Chapter; and Maryann Manker, Tri-Boro Chapter, second place.

The Guild also presented a beautiful fashion show featuring Jacqueline Sims, Elder Ellen Carter, Cathy Battle and Phillip Battle Jr., and Joan Smith. The first portion of the fashion show featured the ladies modeling fabulous furs from their personal collection; part two was a faux fur experience from a Woman’s Touch, located in Monroeville Mall. The crowd also got in some holiday shopping and was introduced to several business opportunities at the many vendors that were on hand.

The guild is 97 years young. Hallie Q. Brown was the sponsoring chapter of the luncheon.
