Child Development Series
DEC. 21—The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh will host the “Giant Eagle Child Development Series: Healthy Nutrition” from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at 10 Children’s Way, North Shore. This is a family activity that will provide resources and conversations about children’s nutritional needs, including tips about healthy and seasonal food selections. The session will be facilitated by Judy Dodd, MS, RD, LDN, of the University of Pittsburgh and the Giant Eagle Food and Nutrition Advisory Board. Friday Wine Tasting
DEC. 21—Palate Partners will host its Friday Wine Tasting from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Palate Partners and Dreadnought Wines, 2013 Penn Ave., Strip District. This is an opportunity for wine lovers to try specialty wines before buying them. Tastings will be held the first and third Friday of the month and the cost is $12 per person. Candlelight Memorial Service
DEC. 21–Operation Safety Net will host a Candlelight Memorial Service from 7-8 p.m. at Grant Street and Fort Pitt Boulevard, Downtown. This annual service is to remember people who died in 2012 while being homeless. There were seven known individuals in Allegheny County who died this year. All are welcomed to attend. DEC. 22—Gateway Medical Society will host its Mentoring Group Promotion Ceremony from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the UPMC Bio Medical Science Tower, 200 Lothrop St., Oakland. DEC. 26—The Community Empowerment Association and United We Stand will host a “Saturday University: A Health, Wellness, Athletic Mentoring Initiative” at 9 a.m. at 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. This is for boys and girls in grades 6th-8th. The university will also be held Dec. 27 and 30. There will also be a holiday Basketball tournament. Registration is required. Ribbon Cutting/Opening Ceremony
DEC. 28—The Penn Hills School District will host a Ribbon Cutting/Opening Ceremony for the new Senior High School at 6 p.m. at 309 Collins Dr., Penn Hills. At 1 p.m. there will be a tour of the new state-of-the art building, a tour of the old high school located on Garland Drive. Refreshments will be served during the evening ceremony. DEC. 29—The Community Empowerment Association will host the 18t Annual Kwanzaa Celebration from 3-8 p.m. at The Arts, Cultural & Training Institute, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood.
