Cyrus “Glitch” Spencer pop-locked his way into the hearts of the American public and the judges on “So You Think You Can Dance,” earning the place as runner up in season 9 of the show.

“I am happy that I was named the runner-up. I think that the audience saw an underdog trying. I love dance and I appreciate other forms of it and each week on the show I looked at each form of dance as a challenge,” Spencer, 22, said. “Nigel (Lythgoe) said that I am one of his favorite people. I don’t know what he saw in me but I’m glad he saw something.”

Spencer spread his unique brand of charm and animation pop locking on Pittsburgh when he and his fellow contestants showcased their dancing talents on the Benedum stage during the “So You Think You Can Dance” tour on last month.

“I’ve never been to Pittsburgh, but the audience can expect to see high energy dancing, performing and movement with a few surprises,” said Cyrus before coming to the city. He currently lives in Atlanta but plans to make the move to Los Angeles soon.

Dance enthusiasts were treated to some of season nine’s top routines performed by the Top 10 finalists including Cole, Audrey, Chehon, Eliana, Will, Witney and of course, Spencer.

Spencer, who was born in Dallas but raised on the South Side of Atlanta, started dancing at the age of 8 but stopped and played basketball before picking it back up again as a teenager.

“When I would see dancing when I was younger, I thought it was cool and my mom taught me the wave and I realized I wanted to really do dancing so I started teaching myself,” Spencer said.

Although he has no formal dance training, Spencer received a crash-course in many styles of dance during his time as a contestant on “So You Think You Can Dance.” He was put through the paces by the judges in season nine’s top 20 and was chosen as second-place favorite male to Chehon Wispi-Tschopp.

“I learned a lot about technique and how to count dance steps and choreography. I am taking ballet classes right now and I am working on creating a style of contemporary dancing that incorporates my animation popping style,” he said.

Spencer has had some of his most amazing dance moments on “So You Think You Can Dance.” One in particular occurred when he danced the show’s first ever animation routine with all-star tWich Boss. In the routine, which was choreographed by Christopher Scott, both dancers were genetically altered specimens who are trying out their new bodies for the first time.

“Working with tWitch was amazing! He also came in as runner-up on the show during this season. He taught me how to still be myself,” Spencer said.
