Doing Business with the County

DEC. 6—The Small Business Development Center of Duquesne University and others will host “Doing Business with Allegheny County” from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the DoubleTree By Hilton-Monroeville Convention Center, 101 Mall Blvd., Monroeville. This is a free seminar on how to do business with Allegheny County, the second largest county in Pennsylvania. Guest speakers will include John Deighan and Ruth Byrd-Smith. The First Step

DEC. 7—The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business & College of Business Administration will host “The First Step: Mechanics of Starting a Small Business” from 7:30-10 a.m. at 1501 Posvar Hall, Fifth Avenue, Oakland. Attendees will learn about business structures, financing, helpful resources and how to understand the forms to establish one’s successful business. Registration is required. Networking Lunch

DEC. 7—Business Women Connect will host its 4th Annual Vendor Fair and Networking Lunch from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Penn Hebron Garden Club, 237 Jefferson Rd., Penn Hills. Local women are invited to network with influential and resourceful women entrepreneurs, while making valuable connections to help grow one’s business. Registration is required and the cost is $17. Holiday Marketplace

DEC. 8—Onyx Woman Network will host a Holiday Marketplace form 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Hosanna House, 807 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg. There will be vendors, a Michelle Obama look-a-like contest, a relationship forum, demonstrations, presentations, business resources and more. Attendance is free. Brown Bag Lunch

DEC. 12—Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania will host its Brown Bag Lunch Series from 12-1 p.m. at 1650 Main St., Pittsburgh. The topic for the series will be “Write Tweets, Blogs and Posts that Impress.” Elayne Masters, of Word Masters, will discuss how to polish one’s communication skills to make sure that their writing and posts represent them in their best light. DEC. 13—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “Investment Outlook for 2013, The Fiscal Cliff and You.” Michael Fertig and Daniel Dingus, both of Fragasso Financial Advisors, will discuss the three driving themes for the economy; what the fiscal cliff could mean to the economy; and how these factors could impact investors.
