Health Center Open House

AUG. 9—The Hill House Health Center will host an Open House from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District. This is celebration of National Community Health Center Week. Stand Up to Cancer

AUG. 10—The Pittsburgh Pirates and Pirates Charities will host Stand Up to Cancer at PNC Park, 115 Federal St., North Shore. This is a national groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. There are special ticket package to the game of the Pirates vs. San Diego Padres. A portion of the ticket price will be donated. Basketball camp

AUG. 11—Champion Enterprises will host the Armon Gilliam Memorial “Hard Work” Basketball Camp from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Penn Hills Branch YMCA, 11817 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills. Golf classic

AUG. 13—The Allegheny County Democratic Committee will host its 15th Annual Golf Classic at 11 a.m. at Wildwood Golf Club, 2195 Sample Rd., Allison Park. This is for the committee to raise support to continue in their work of helping candidates, winning on issues and more. There will be a cookout, a shotgun start and more. Peace gathering

Haiti fundraiser

AUG. 18—Bynums Marketing & Communications Inc. will host “A Gift of Hope: From the Hills of Pittsburgh to the Mountains of Haiti” at 11:30 a.m. at the home of Donald Kortland and Anna P. Singer, 115 Grandview Ave., Mt. Washington. This is a fundraiser benefiting the Functional Literacy Ministry of Haiti and will include live entertainment by Etta Cox, Joy Ike, the Caribbean Steel Band and more. Fashion Launch Party

Gear for Grades

ONGOING—Citizens Bank and the Homeless Children’s Education Fund in Allegheny County will host its Gear for Grades Initiative 2012 at local branches. Individuals are invited to donate school supplies to help children go back to school with the items they need. Collections will be taken until Aug. 10. SummerFood Program

ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host their SummerFood Program at more than 100 sites throughout Allegheny County. From now through Aug. 17, the program will offer free breakfast, lunch and recreational programs to children up to 18 years old, as well as eligible individuals with intellectual or physical disabilities 19 year or older. Farmers’ markets

ONGOING—Citiparks will host its Community Farmers’ Market from 3:30-7:30 p.m. at five locations around the City of Pittsburgh. Monday through Friday, markets will be located in East Liberty, South Side, Carrick, Bloomfield, Beechview, Downtown and the North Side.
