“Disney On Ice 100 Years of Magic” is produced by Feld Entertainment, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Theatrical. The show features ice skaters dressed as more than 60 of Disney’s most popular cartoon characters from 18 shows.

Garland is a member of the “Disney On Ice: 100 Years of Magic” ensemble.

“I can play any character during the show,” Garland said. “Everyone is a kid at heart and Disney is everywhere and it appeals to kids and adults alike. Everyone can relate to the characters.”

Garland got his start with the magical company in 2007 and has appeared in “High School Musical” and “Disney Live,” which came to Pittsburgh during the 2007-08 season.

“When I saw that ‘High School Musical’ would be starting in 2007, I sent in an audition tape. I didn’t know what Disney wanted I just knew I wanted to be a part of it. I got cast in the show and I played Chad and Zeke,” Garland said.

As a member of the Disney team, Garland has had the opportunity to travel to more than 20 countries spreading Disney magic. Some of those countries include Mexico, Spain, and Amsterdam.

“It’s been a blessing to be able to be a part of this and to live my dream,” he said.

Garland, who became interested in skating by way of his late grandmother, started skating at the age of three. He began performing at 13.

“I feel free on the ice when I’m skating. There are no worries when I’m skating. There are not a lot of African-American males skating and that was one of my dreams when I decided to get into ice skating,” Garland said.

Describing his skating style as Hip Hop on ice skates, Garland and his cast mates take the audience on a journey through some of Disney’s most popular storylines by way of music skating and a lot of that good old Disney magic.

“We want the audience to know that they can do anything if they put their hearts into it,” he said. “Kids need to stay focused, keep the Lord first and don’t let anything stop them when it comes to achieving their dreams.”

When Garland isn’t making kids and adults smile on ice skates during his Disney performances, he enjoys working out and making music on the music production equipment that he carries with him when he travels for performances.

“I love to express myself through music and skating. I sit in my room and create music in between shows. If I wasn’t performing, I would be working in music business management and running my own production company,” Garland said. “I like making music and changing the way that people feel.”
