:10—You mark my words, and my words are markable (is markable a word?) Anyway … James Dixon will right the ship and your Pitt Panther Basketball Team will finish strong in the Big East Tournament.
:09—New England beats the Ravens. “Quote the Ravens never more.” I picked the 49ers to outcoach the Giants and win a close one. Right result, wrong team! As much as I hate to say it, New England wins another Super Bowl. Brady is on a mission. (However keep in mind I picked the Steelers to beat “Tee-Bow” and Denver … ok so I missed one, shut up!)
:08—Speaking of “Your Pittsburgh Steelers,” don’t be surprised to see some major changes on defense. Consider this; James Farrior is 37 years old. He may have to go…leadership and all. Casey Hampton has plugged the middle of that line since 2001 but his recent knee injury and $4.89 million salary may send him packing. Aaron Smith is all broke up, Bryant McFadden may be done here and Larry Foote just might be expendable. The greater part to all this is really about the salary cap. The Steelers are about $25 million over.
:07—Soon, very soon a deep voice… well not so deep… well mellow… well not mellow, kind of a soft shout if you know what I mean… anyway the powers that be here at the Courier Office are going to tell me that’s about enough plugs for Chuck Sanders and the Savoy. But for real… for real, fellas have ya’ll been to the Savoy on a Saturday Night and I mean upstairs? Well let me tell you if you have not … make it your next stop!! And do yourself a favor. If you’re married take your lawyer with you mmmmmmaaaannnnn the women are unbelievable. Now what, there it is, Bam!!! Why your lawyer? You can have him call your wife on the spot and say…hello baby…I ain’t never coming home!
:06—The Pens are on a five game winning streak … Sidney Crosby who?? (I make it sound like I really know something about hockey huh??)
:05—Pittsburgh stand up and cheer the Pittsburgh Passion Women’s Professional Football Team and Owner, President and former player Teresa Conn. They are being recognized and honored at this year’s Dapper Dan Awards Banquet celebrating their excellence and ten year anniversary.
:04—Movie Review Time, now sit up straight and pay attention:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo—go see it, slow start, great finish, great mystery, very very dark and edgy, but good. I give it 3 basketballs.
There are three reasons you’re going to see Red Tails. #1 it’s a damn good movie, I mean corn bread, fried chicken, mac & cheese the way your grandmama made it and candied yams good! #2 it’s our history, the Black History “they” try not to tell. So we have to go see it and support it so they will keep the history coming out of Hollywood. And #3 George Lucas, the Star Wars Legend and mega billionaire is paying for this out of his pockets to the tune to $150 million!! But that’s not the real point. George is going with a “sister” you know. Her name is Mellody Hopson, the financial expert on ABC Good Morning America. First Paula Patton now Mellody. I ask you my sisters at the New Pittsburgh Courier, what’s up with all these Black women going to rich White men? Not that there’s anything wrong with it!
:03—On Jan 23, 1979 the great Willie Mays was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. That’s not surprising. What is surprising is it was not a unanimous decision … huh? C’mon man who ever you were!
:02—To no surprise, because she’s a New Pittsburgh Courier supporter and contributor, I am proud to say Joy Woodruff is reading Overtime … and she’s now in the Locker Room.
:01—Now we got a party … oops, I mean Par-Tay and this one’s going to be big. It’s The Champions New First Friday Par-Tay—starring national recording artist Artistree on Friday, Feb. 3, at “The Club Health and Fitness” in Monroeville in the restaurant now known as JT’s (He of JT’s Rib Shack in Penn Hills). Now listen, there’s only 200 seats so its first come first seat—cash bar—cash kitchen—free parking—vendors with good stuff to buy—50/50 and prizes and yes The Fabulous Diamond Models—do-not-miss this !! For information, call The Champions at 412-628-4856. Tickets at the door only. $10 admission benefits The 37th Annual Kenny Durrett High School All-Star Basketball Classic Sat—April 7.
:00—All the respect and love in the world to Joe Paterno and his family—I’ll have my Coach Paterno story for you next week.
