DEC. 9—The Black Student Union of Point Park University will host its Soul Food Social from 7-10 p.m. at Lawrence Hall, Wood St., Downtown. The event will feature guest speaker K. DEC. 9—Fashion Africana and the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater will host Fashion Africana at 8 p.m. at 5941 Penn Ave., East Liberty. This is the 10th anniversary event celebrating women of the Diaspora. Brunch With Santa
DEC. 10—Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker James Harrison and the James Harrison Family Foundation will host the 2nd annual Brunch with Santa from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Heinz Field West Club Lounge, 100 Art Rooney Dr., North Shore. This is a family-based event that will include brunch, games, activities and more. There will also be a collection of unwrapped toys. Tickets are required. Human Rights Day
DEC. 10—Occupy Pittsburgh will host an International Human Rights Day Celebration at 1 p.m. at the Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty. This is an indoor rally, followed by a march, in the East Liberty/Larimer neighborhoods to demand the fulfillment of the 2011 Proclamation of Pittsburgh as a Human Rights City. DEC. 18—Lori Hollis with Little Angels Learning Academy will host the Heavenly Sounds at Christmas Dinner, Concert and Family from 3-7 p.m. at Dave & Busters Showroom, 180 E. Waterfront Dr., Homestead. The theme will be “Celebrating the Family.” The concert will feature Heavenly Sounds and special guests Francie Lucas of WORD FM and the Hamilton Singers. ONGOING—Allegheny County Parks Department and UPMC will host the Hartwood Acres Park Celebration of Lights from 6-10 p.m. at 200 Hartwood Acres, Pittsburgh. This is a park consisting of 629 acres of land, decorated with lights. The proceeds benefit project Bundle Up and other local charities. The cost is $12 per car and $3-$5 per person, per bus. ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Community Services and Pittsburgh Mercy Health System’s Operation Safety Net will host its Severe Weather Emergency Shelter from 7 p.m.-7 a.m. at Smithfield United Church of Christ, 620 Smithfield St., Downtown. This is a safety shelter for people who are street homeless when the temperature drops below 25 degrees Fahrenheit. For more information, call 412-779-1329.
