Exhibition Opening

The Carnegie Museum of Art presents “Picturing the City: Downtown Pittsburgh. 2007-2010” at 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. This exhibit features 86 recent images from nine contemporary photographers who call this city their home. The photographs record a Downtown where people, buildings and landscapes have been altered dramatically in the wake of $2 billion in public and private development projects. Bob Mintzer Band

MCG Jazz presents the Bob Mintzer Brazilian Big Band at 8 p.m. at the MCG Jazz Concert Hall, 1815 Metropolitan St., Manchester. This all-Brazilian program also features Peter Erskin on the drums and Russ Ferante on the piano. Mintzer has been active in the jazz, pop, orchestra and Latin music genres. This is the first in the “Once in a Lifetime” moment series to be featured during MCG’s 25th season celebration. Poet in New York

The Kelly Strayhorn Theater presents “Poet in New York” by Pig Iron Theatre Company at 8 p.m. at 5941 Penn Ave., East Liberty. This play by the Philadelphia based theatre company pays homage to Federico Garcia Lorca, a Spanish poet, playwright and theater director. It takes place in 1929 as a broken-hearted Lorca arrives in New York City to find a whirlwind of Harlem blues, looming skyscrapers and stock market disasters. The performance will run through Oct. 1.
