On Aug. 20, Leon Haynes III, executive director, Hosanna House, and emcee’s Tracy Lee (Q92.9), Danille Smith (WGBN) and yours truly hosted a night of musical artists, food vendors and an artist’s market. The seventh annual Summer Nights 2011 was held at the beautiful and serene Sherwood Properties near Forest Hills. The entertainment list included: House of Soul, SCR Scream Team, Cello Fury, Ranika and Spirit Filled, Bridgette Purdue, Artistree and Chico Williams. Each act gave their all and it was an evening with something for everyone. Patrick L. Polk of Patrix Gourmet Foods, Catering and Event Planning was the VIP chef.

The annual event is done as a fundraiser for the Hosanna House Capital Campaign. Beautiful renderings were on display detailing the future of the Sherwood Facility and the Wallace Avenue building. For Sherwood, there are plans for pool improvements, an athletic field, improved tennis courts and nature trails. On Wallace Avenue, Hosanna would like to replace the rooftop HVAC, install a new roof, expand the parking lot and improve the gymnasium. Haynes says, “getting the building to that place where we’re not continually dealing with small physical plant issues is huge, we’ll then be confident that we can sustain the programs and services people need.” Hosanna House is a charitable nonprofit community center founded in Wilkinsburg in 1990.
