Long time sports writer, sports editor, and copy editor for the New Pittsburgh Courier, Eddie Jefferies, suffered a stroke July 6 and is currently recovering at Mercy Hospital.
It was a severe stroke which has him paralyzed on his left side, a family spokesperson said. He is stable but is progressing slowly. He can talk but doctors prefer he rest.
For the past few years he has been taking care of his mother and father who both recently passed. His sister also passed last year.
Jefferies joined the Courier in the mid-’70s as a sports writer and was with it for several years as sports editor and copy editor before leaving to work for the Census Bureau in the mid ’90s.
