My husband pays more for his Mom’s gift!

(NNPA)—Dear Gwendolyn:

I have been married for 22 years and in 2011, I will file for a divorce.

This is the problem: My husband is a good man. He treats me like royalty.  He also gives his last dollar to make our children happy during the holidays—which means Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

However, he does have a problem I refuse to continue to tolerate. He pays more for his mother’s Christmas gift than he pays for my gift and all the children’s gifts combined.

He also pays a high price for gifts to his grandmother, aunts and uncles. His mother is 75. His grandmother is 98. His aunts and uncles are all in their 80s.  What do you think I should do?—Margaret

Dear Margaret:

How dare you be so ungrateful. Let me tell you this:  A survey was recently taken and it was discovered that many men spend more on a gift for their mistress than the gift for their wife.

You mentioned that your husband treats you like royalty and he is great with your children. I don’t see a problem here.

Think about it. With a 75-year-old mother and a 98-year-old grandmother—what’s wrong with you?

How blessed your husband is to still have such an aging family with him. Do you realize when celebrating Mother’s Day, you see little children wearing a white flower letting you know “mother” is gone.

Margaret, maybe you need to divorce and let this good man find a woman—with a warmer heart.  (copyright © 2010 by Gwendolyn L. Baines)
