John Witherspoon

The Improv presents John Witherspoon at 8 p.m. at 166 E. Bridge St., Waterfront. For four-nights the hilarious Witherspoon will bring the laughter to the Burgh. He has appeared in numerous movies and television and is better known for his roles as Ice Cube’s dad in the Friday trilogy and Pops on the “Wayans Brothers” sitcom. Smooth Jazz Fridays

Club Duo presents the Smooth Jazz Fridays Holiday Celebration from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at the Holiday Inn University Center, 100 Lytton Ave., Oakland. Edible Schoolyard

Highmark Healthy High 5 presents “Nourishing the Kids of Katrina” at 1 p.m. at the Charles A. Stewart Performing Arts Center, 575 3rd St., Pitcarin. The documentary by Robert Lee Grant discusses the childhood obesity epidemic and tells of the edible garden concept, which is the curriculum in four local schools. The concept, which was created by chef and educator Alice Waters, is to teach students the importance of proper nutrition and how to plant and care for seedlings in the spring and harvest the vegetables in the fall. Glue Man

The Bill Nunn Theatre Outreach Project and the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater present “Ananse and the Glue Man” at 10 a.m. at 5941 Penn Ave., East Liberty. This production is about a trickster who dreams of a life with no responsibilities or demands. So he fakes his death and lives off his crops, things are perfect until his son discovers the crops are disappearing and comes up with a scheme of his own.
