You pretty much know that summer is about over when the winners of Champion Enterprises’ annual Mixed Doubles Celebrity Tennis Tournament raise their trophies in victory. The 35th consecutive year of the tennis spectacular got off to a great start with a record breaking field of 20 teams, magnificent weather and some of the best area tennis players in western Pennsylvania.
As usual the event was attended by local celebrities including former Super Bowl champion Judge Dwayne Woodruff and wife, Joy; former NBA stars Armon Gilliam and B.B. Flenory; sports talk show host John Tate; members of the fabulous Diamond Models Fashion Troupe and drivers from The Pittsburgh United Rays Corvette Club.

Tournament directors Donna Bey and Jim Quigley were excited and quite satisfied with this year’s turnout and promise a few interesting changes for next year.
“After 35 years of this great tennis spectacular, we plan on going to bigger and better tennis play,” said Donna Bey.
This year’s tournament sponsors were Five Starr Corp., Century III Chevrolet, Chuck Sanders Charities, Penn Avenue McDonald’s and the New Pittsburgh Courier.
