Business series

OCT. 7—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15-1 p.m. at the Downtown and Business branch, 612 Smithfield St. The topic is “Grants and Loans for Qualifying Individuals.” James Lutton, nonprofit consultant will lead the session and discuss how to research grants and low-interest loans in the database and on the Internet. Reception and briefing

OCT. 7—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania and the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce will host a Legislative Reception and Briefing from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Duquesne Club, 325 Sixth Ave., Downtown. Individuals will learn from the discussion with the PA Chamber of Business & Industry’s Jim Willshier and the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber’s president on topics such as the budget, line items of interest to business and more. There will also be a discussion on the Senate and gubernatorial races. Reservations are required by Oct. 4 and the cost is $10 for non-members. OCT. 9—Nationwide will host the Nationwide On Your Side Tour with Tavis Smiley at 10 a.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd., Downtown. This is an exclusive tour promoting economic empowerment and financial literacy across the country. The free seminars will share insight in the areas of home ownership, paying for college, preparing for retirement and starting and running a business. Registration is requested. Vendor fair

OCT. 9—Ramah International Service Enterprise will host an International Vendor Fair Expo from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel/Monroeville Convention Center, 101 Mall Blvd., Monroeville. This expo is free to the community and will feature vendors, foods and more. There will be free childcare available. Registration is requested. OCT. 19—Saint Vincent College’s Small Business Development Center will host a QuickBooks Made Easy from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 300 Fraser Purchase Rd., Latrobe. Dennis Piper and associates will present this seminar that is designed for those individuals and businesses that have recently purchased the accounting system and would like to become more efficient in processing their day-to-day work.
