On Aug. 28, at the Marriott City Center, the first Peppermint Soiree-Summer Breeze was held. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, (Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity joined forces for an evening of fun and madness. There was something for everyone, jazz in one ballroom, line dancing and a DJ in the ballroom down the hall and food stations, silent auctions and vendors in between.

The vendors came from as far as Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and as close as Ohio. More than 700 people enjoyed the evening and for many it was a reunion or old home week.
The soiree took nine months of planning with Tonya Smith, Dewitt Walton and Stanford White as event chairs. The highlight of the evening was a peppermint twist on the popular “Dating Game” TV show. Some very brave Kappas and daring Deltas went blindly where no others would go and took center stage in the Katch a Kappa, Date a Delta dating game also known as “please baby please.” The only thing that was missing was Chuck Woolery, the cheesy theme song and the prizes.
The contestants answered questions like what would be your ideal date and what color best describes you? One of the answers we can print, “The color yellow best describes me. I’m like sunshine.”
The evening was chock full of entertainment for all and was a great way to raise funds for the charitable ventures that the Deltas and Kappas contribute to. Not only does this sorority and fraternity share the colors of red and white, they share the distinct purpose of giving back to their community via exciting fundraising events.
