In my travels spring 2010

Did you hear the one about the young man who took his iPod to school? I guess he was supposed to give up the iPod to the school security guard but decided he didn’t want to do that.

Wow, I wish a few security guards would roll on some people that I know who work with iPod buds in their ears and also wear them while driving. One of my favorite co-workers has buds in her ears all day. It drives me crazy. When ever you want to talk to her you feel like you’re interrupting her from her music. If you tap her on the shoulder she jumps out of her skin and then says she likes to be scared.

I don’t get it. I like to hear what is going on around me, especially when I’m driving. I would never wear them when I’m walking, who knows who could roll up on me and take me by surprise.

Unlike my co-worker I don’t like to be scared.

Have you noticed how slow fast food has gotten? Do you think it’s because they have too much on their menu? I think that may be it. When burger joints add fish, chicken, salads, sundaes, gourmet coffee and colored milk shakes, it’s hard to keep up.

Wanting to have it your way doesn’t help the cause. I love the Angus burger from McDonald’s’ but I prefer mustard over mayo. Sometimes I have to wait forever for this slight change. On a recent road trip I stopped at a fast food place and I might as well have stopped at a sit-down restaurant. I was in line so long I got to know everyone in the line.

When did fast food become so slow?

After a good hamburger there is nothing like a good afternoon of retail therapy. I stopped in a few of my favorite thrift stores and felt like I struck gold. I found beautiful outfits from some of the best designers that still had the tags on the sleeve. This is one of the best ways to go green by recycling clothing. Now when I make a purchase before I bring it home I go through my mental rolodex and think what is at home that I can give away. This has been working out pretty good.

I finally realized that I can only wear so many clothes and the closets can only hold but so much. What’s sad is when you buy two of the same thing because you have so much you can’t find anything so you keep buying the same thing over and over again.

Speaking of giving things away it’s flea market and yard sale time. When you switch over your wardrobe from winter to spring and summer, pull out those items that you didn’t wear last year or you can no longer fit and sell them. If selling isn’t your thing, donate. Don’t forget to catalogue your donated items if you itemize on your federal income tax. One of the best ways to do this is with the Turbo Tax online tool “It’s deductible.”

Can you believe it is May already? Before you know it tax time will be here again. Get to stepping.
