Out & About at Chocolate City

This week I visited the Hard Rock Café on the South Side of Pittsburgh, the Rex Theatre on the South Side, Matrix in Station Square, CJ’s in the Strip District, Chocolate City in Homewood, Corner Café on the South Side, Ava Lounge in East Liberty and Xentil in Greentree.

My first stop was at the Hard Rock Café where Gene Stovall had an event called “Earth Wind and Fire vs. the Dave Matthews Band.” It featured Gene Stovall at his best, singing all the hits from the legendary R&B group, Earth, Wind & Fire while Ben Harper sang hits from the Dave Matthews Band. It was a great time for everyone who came out.

My next stop was the Rex Theatre where hip-hop artist The Finest performed for a crowd of fans with DJ Phinesse on the 1’s and 2’s. The crowd was hyped.

My next stop was Matrix where all the folks came out for the last night because Matrix is now closed for good. Former WAMO deejays were in the building and each room was filled to capacity.

My next stop was Chocolate City where Yvette held her birthday party and family and friends came out to join in the celebration.

My next stop was CJ’s in the Strip District where DJ Nick Nice was on the 1’s and 2’s playing all the hits for the crowd. You have to come out to CJ’s to get your party on and enjoy some great food.

My next stop was Ace’s and Deuce’s Lounge where Cynthia Stribling held her birthday party and everyone came to show her much love.

My next stop was at Xentil where they held a pie throwing contest for the employees against the managers. This was a fun event for the employees who reached their quotas for the week by getting to throw a pie at their managers.

My next stop was at Ava Lounge in East Liberty where everyone knows your name. Ava Lounge is one of the safest venues in Pittsburgh to party, drink and enjoy yourself.

My final destination was the Corner Café on the South Side where Shenita and Fletcher Jones held their annual event called “The Last Poet Standing.” If you want a relaxing atmosphere every last Wednesday of the month, this is place to go.
